7 Chakra Overview: What is Root Chakra?

Welcome to our chakra learning session. We have briefly introduced the 7 chakras and their energy functions in the overview. In the following 7 articles, we will talk more about each chakra and share with you the affirmations that help us balance them. Now, let’s start with the first chakra, the Root Chakra.

root chakra location

Location

The root chakra is located at the base of the spine. The corresponding body locations are the perineum, along the first three vertebrae, at the pelvic plexus.

Root Chakra-the base of our life

The Root Chakra is the first energy center and forms the basis and the starting point for our development.
The Root chakra is the chakra of stability, security, and our basic needs. This chakra is comprised of whatever
grounds you to stability in your life. This includes your basic needs such as food, water, shelter, safety, as well
as your emotional needs of interconnection, and being fearless. When these needs are met, you feel
grounded and safe. It is the most important chakra as this is the fundamental chakra.

Connections with our Body and Emotion

The first chakra governs the bladder, kidneys, lower extremities, and spine. When there is an imbalance, you can experience physical symptoms that include constipation, weight issues, fatigue, back pain. Emotionally speaking, when the first chakra is in need of healing, you may find you’re short-tempered and unusually aggressive. Other signs you need to open up the root chakra are insecurity, poor decision making, anxiety, detachment.

Balance your Root Chakra

To balance your root chakra, start with the simple meditation of imaging a bright red light at the base of your tailbone. Picture this red light extending down your legs and feet, grounding you to the earth. You may listen to our Root chakra healing guided meditation video to re-balance your Root Chakra.

Root Chakra and Food!?

As we know that the Root Chakra is related to the color red. Red foods automatically influence your root chakra as well. Think of strawberries, cherries, tomatoes and red bell peppers. Root vegetables like beets, garlic, and potatoes are all helping with grounding.

Affirmation

Targeted affirmations are incredibly useful for root chakra healing and balancing. You can repeat these positive statements multiple times a day, or anytime you get a sense your chakra might be blocked:

I am safe and secure

I am grounded, stable, and standing on my own two feet

I connect with the earth and all other living things

I nurture my body with healthy food and clean water

I am always provided for and taken care of

I am comfortable in my surroundings

Through the above information, I hope you have a better understanding of the Root Chakra and its influence on our lives. With more attention, you are able to open and balance your Root Chakra energy. You can also experience the energy of the Root Chakra through meditation and yoga.

May the root chakra energy be always with you.
