For thousands of years, money has evolved through innovation.

Well, innovation and abuse. From barter to gold coins, paper money to digital transactions, humans have continuously looked for better tools to store and exchange value. But at every major shift, one thing has remained consistent: those in power will always find a way to manipulate the system for their own gain.

Today, we live under the rule of so-called ‘sovereign money‘. It’s money issued by the government and is controlled by central banks.

And it’s breaking.

Let’s unpack how we got here, how the systems got abused, and why Bitcoin is the way out.

A brief history of money...

Commodities

Before ‘money’ as we know it today, people traded goods like cattle, salt or grain. It was inefficient but it was better than nothing.

Problems start when what you have to trade isn’t what the other party wants in return. Does it seem fair to trade one milk-producing cow for just one sack of grain? What if I want a basket of grapes, but all you have are leather hides?

Precious Metals

Civilizations began minting coins made from gold, silver and bronze. These are naturally scarce resources, so they held intrinsic value.

These coins became trusted because their worth was in the metal itself.

Coin Clipping and Metal Debasement

Coin clipping is defined as clipping off the edges of metal coins so these parts can be re-forged into new coins. This obviously reduces the value of the coins, making them lighter and worth less.

Metal debasement is similar, but involves melting the entire original coin then adding more common metals like aluminum or copper, then re-forging the impure mixture into coins. You would then have more coins, but they would contain far less of the rare metals.

These were early monetary manipulation: steal a teensy bit from everyone’s money, invisibly. Sounds familiar, huh?

Paper Promises

Paper banknotes emerged as ‘receipts’ for gold held in vaults.

At first, these notes were redeemable in metal. Particularly due to Post-World War I economic instability, governments stopped using the gold standard. They cited, ‘inflexibility and limiting response to crises’ as a reason.

What once was “as good as gold” became “good as long as you trust us”. Governments gave themselves the power to increase the money supply and have more control over the economy. Basically, the dollar isn’t worth its claim in gold anymore.

There are estimates that the total amount of all the gold mined by humans is only worth around USD 13.7 trillion in today’s money. That’s only 2/3 of the US Economy’s size.

Fiat Currency

Today’s money is just pure fiat.

It’s declared legal tender by government decree, backed by nothing but collective belief.

And it’s endlessly printable.

The Hidden Tax: Inflation

Once money stopped being tied to gold, the temptation to print more and more became too great.

Governments now fund deficits by just… creating new currency. This dilutes the value of what you already have.

Inflation isn’t just rising prices, it’s the theft of your time and energy. Your purchasing power is eroding year after year. If you’ve ever wondered why your salary doesn’t seem to stretch as far as a few years ago, or why getting your first home feels permanently out of reach… well, this is why.

Sovereign Money: Built to be Abused

Whether through:

  • Coin clipping in Ancient Rome
  • Debasing silver content in medieval Europe
  • Abandoning the gold standard officially in 1971
  • or today’s central bank money printing sprees,

Sovereign money has always been vulnerable to abuse. Why? Because control over money means power.

And power is hard to resist.

Bitcoin Is The Way Out

Enter Bitcoin, the first decentralised, incorruptible form of money.

  • Fixed supply: Only 21 million will ever exist.
  • Borderless & permission-less: No central authority can block, freeze, or inflate it.
  • Backed by math & code: Not promises.
  • Secured by energy: It’s proof-of-work system makes manipulation prohibitively expensive.
  • Owned by the people: Not issued by a government, corporation or bank.

Bitcoin is not a stock, not a company, nor a passing tech trend. It’s a monetary revolution, a reset button on centuries of abused.

Opt-Out of the Broken System

Fiat money is broken by design. Bitcoin is money by design.

If you’re tired of working harder for less, of watching savings lose value while asset prices soar, of trusting systems that consistently fail… you’re not alone.

Bitcoin is the way out.

It’s not about getting rich quick. It’s about taking back your sovereignty, storing your wealth in something they can’t print, inflate or steal.

The old system is built on trust.

Bitcoin is built so you don’t have to.
